Wauconda Fatality Update

On September 25, 2020, at 1:35 PM, officers from Wauconda Police Department responded to the northbound lanes of Rt. 12, just south of Case Rd., for an accident involving a red BMW 325i and a blue Mack dump truck pulling a trailer that was carrying a bulldozer. The preliminary investigation revealed that the Mack dump truck was pulling out from a private drive in the 29000 block of Rt. 12 with the intent to travel northbound on Rt. 12. According to a witness and for reasons unknown at this time, the driver of the BMW collided into the rear end of the Mack truck and trailer at a high rate of speed. The 69-year-old male driver of the Mack truck was uninjured. The BMW was driven by a female and occupied by one female passenger. Both occupants of the BMW were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in critical condition.

On September 25, 2020, at 11:00 PM, the Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified, and responded to Advocate Condell Medical Center for a death investigation.

“On September 28, 2020, at 9:09 AM, an autopsy was performed on the driver of the BMW, 19- year-old Aria Albertelli, of Barrington. The preliminary autopsy results indicate that she died from injuries due to blunt force trauma from the crash.. On September 30, 2020 the 16-year-old passenger, also from Barrington, died as well. She, too, died of injuries due to blunt force trauma from the crash. Toxicology results are pending for both girls. The investigation continues by our office, the Wauconda Police Department, and the Major Crash Assistance Team,” stated Dr. Howard Cooper, Lake County Coroner.

“We have been in close contact with both families and our deepest condolences go out to them during this difficult time. This is truly a tragedy,” he added.
