On November 7, 2017 just after 2:00am, Palatine Police stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation at the intersection of N. Baldwin Road and E. Azalea Lane.  Speaking with the driver of the vehicle, the officer observed the odor of cannabis emanating from the passenger compartment.  Officers had the two occupants exit the vehicle to perform an investigatory search.  The driver of the vehicle, Lamonti Griffin Jr. was found to be in possession of marijuana.  Located within reach of the front seat passenger, Fernando Poblete, Palatine Police officers located a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun and an additional loaded magazine for the weapon.  It was quickly determined that Poblete did not have an Illinois Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Card.
