Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault, Aggravated Kidnapping and Child Pornography Arrest.
On May 27, 2020, just after 8:00 pm, Palatine police officers responded to the 1400 block of Ports O’Call Drive in Palatine for a delayed report of a criminal sexual assualt involving a 4- year-old female victim. Palatine police were told that around 3:00 pm, the victim, who was visiting family in the 1700 block of N. Rose Ave. in Palatine, was playing outside when an unknown male subject grabbed her and took her into a common stairwell of an adjacent apartment building. While inside of the building, the subject sexually assualted the victim and took a picture of her with his cellular phone. Palatine police detectives continued to investigate the incident and identify the offender.
On June 16, 2020, just after 6:00 pm, Palatine police officers were called to the 1700 block of N. Rose Ave. in Palatine for a report of a suspicious person. The caller reported that an unknown male subject approached her 5-year-old daughter, who was playing outside, and asked her to go into an apartment building. The victim was able to run away from the subject. The caller’s description of the subject was similar to the offender from the May 27th incident. A Palatine police officer responding to the area observed a male subject, who matched the offender’s description, running from the scene. The officer was able to stop the subject. The subject, identified as 18-year-old Jeremy Reyes of the 1200 block of Isle Royal Circle in Palatine, was positively identified as the offender who was with the 5-year-old victim. The mother of the 4-year-old victim from the incident of May 27th arrived at the scene and told the officers that Reyes was the offender seen with her daughter.
During the subsequent investigation, Reyes admitted to his involvement in both incidents. A search warrant was obtained for Reyes’ cellular phone which was found to contain a recording of his contact with the 4-year-old victim from May 27th. Pursuant to the investigation, Reyes was charged with one Class X felony count of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child, one Class X felony count of Aggravated Kidnapping, and one Class X felony count of Child Pornography from the May 27th incident, and one Class 2 felony count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse from the June 16th incident. On today’s date, Reyes was transported to the Cook County Third District Courthouse in Rolling Meadows for a bond hearing. He appeared before Judge Mandeltort who ordered Reyes held without bond. Reyes’ next court date has been set for July 29, 2020 at 9:00 am in Room 108 in Rolling Meadows.
